This is a beautifully made board that allows you to expand your Raspberry Pi 5 by connecting to the 16-pin PCIe ribbon cable connector on the Pi 5. It can even be used with the Pi CM5 if your carrier board has the PCIe connector. Raspberry Pi 5 is the first Pi to have a conveniently exposed PCIe connector, so this won't work directly with older models of the Pi.The makers have very thoughtfully included orientation marks on the ribbon cable so you can easily get the polarity correct when attaching the cable. This is really helpful and shows good attention to detail in the design.The included 12vdc power supply is rated for up to 2 amps, so it provides ample power for many of the PCIe cards that you would be likely to attach. In case you need more power, there is a standard 5v/12v/GND connector on board so you can use a desktop computer power supply to power the board.The X1 connector is open at the back so it can accommodate X4, X8, and X16 devices if necessary.All the mounting hardware and an auxiliary power cable is included, along with a handy mounting plate that provides some extra stability.The unit works great for attaching large and fast PCI M.2 NVMe storage to the Pi.

Waveshare makes great quality stuff, and this PCIe X1 interface board for Raspberry Pi 5 is no exception.I like the overall build quality - the board construction is excellent and all the components used are from good manufacturers. The installation is fairly straight forward, but you'll definitely want to be paying attention to the ribbon (FFC) cable as it is somewhat fragile and if a mistake is to be made this is where it will probably happen.
