I've been reading this series for years, but took a break for a while. The last warriors series I read was Omen of the freaking stars, so there's a lot I need to catch up on. You know, I grew older, life happens, I plunged headfirst into other stories. But recently, I've jumped back into these books out of a sudden burst of nostalgia. Despite that, I was ambivalent about reading this one. After all, the warriors-verse has moved well past these characters. However, I read so many posts from people praising this book's excellent writing, so curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to give it a shot. I didn't regret it. This book was freaking brilliant. For the first time in forever, after I finished the last paragraph, I took a deep breath and just said "wow". I love how we got to see more of Oakheart, whose legend was only briefly mentioned in the original warriors series. After the praise the other cats heaped on this guy, I was glad to learn more about him. He's an important character in this story because he's Crookedstar's brother. We also get a glimpse of Bluestar in her early apprentice days, which I loved.Crookedstar's story is a pretty sad one. I'm not going to lie. However, it's also beautifully written, and the ending was perfect. I highly recommend this story if you're curious about Crookedstar, one of Riverclan's great leaders, want to learn more about the cat, the myth, the legend that's Oakheart (who has become one of my favorite characters, by the way), or if you just want to sit back and read one of the Warrior-verse's most powerful, emotionally stirring, and well-written stories.

(Written by the person I got this book for)TL;DR: Amazing but also sad. Read, unless you don't like sad books. (No spoilers.)This book is amazing. It's heartbreaking (yes, I did cry in parts) but not in-your-face sad. It's definitely much more sombre that the usual tone of Warriors, but it's a must-read, no matter what. However, if you dislike sad books, this probably isn't for you.The plot feels well-written and not at all rushed, the characters feel so realistic you can feel their pain, the humour is in exactly rhe right places, the tone is perfect. All in all making it (in my opinion) the best Warriors book in the series.
