I was enjoying putting this through its paces until the Bluetooth connection kept dropping out every few minutes. It’s easy to re-pair, but the problem keeps happening. This means it’s not much use for the garden ( parties, family events, film night, etc) which would have been one of its attractions. This is a real letdown. I tried all the options I could think of, and a few more which I found online, but no joy. You can of course use it wired, and the range of inputs including XLR input mean it could be used by a serious DJ or for music performanvce, but one of its main purposes has been lost. Even more of a pity considering the price has dropped from £350 to £270 since I ordered it for review – at the new price, it would be a world-beater if Bluetooth worked properly. It's solidly made, and a set of rubber edge ball protectors (with a special Allen key to fit them) is included. On to the interesting stuff:-The large perforated speaker grill with intimidatingly large subwoofers looks epic-The sound output is insane. You can control the speaker as usual with your phone, but the twist knob on the back goes to 11 and beyond. At full volume it would happily fill a hall big enough for 200 people.-The bass is amazing at all frequencies - the dual 10” really make the difference. At lower volumes, some speakers have tinny bass at lower volumes, but this doesn’t lose any quality.-Mid/high frequencies are great too, with crisp response even when there’s a lot of bassvocals and symbols even when the bass is getting busy-The rear knobs are illuminated, making sound control easy; they don’t protrude too far, reducing the risk of damageThe battery charge lasts for several hours, but as you can’t use the speaker outdoors effectively the value of this is limited. The large carry handles on the top and side make it easy to transport. If only they’d got the Bluetooth right …

I'm extremely impressed with this product. The audio quality is outstanding: rich, detailed, and with a powerful bass response that really fills a room. The Bluetooth connection is seamless and reliable, and the physical controls all you to quickly fine-tune the exact sound profile you're after. The unit feels premium and very robust, and the design is both modern and functional. The ability to play via battery is great, and Sharp's claim of 10 hours battery life seems pretty accurate. It's designed with a range of input options, including XLR and TRS for instruments and microphones, as well as a 3.5mm AUX input for other audio devices. There is also the ability to use the "Duo Mode", which allows for a True Wireless Stereo pairing with another SumoBox.While it's described as portable - and it definitely is - it is worth noting it pretty heavy! However, with some good integrated handles it's easy enough to carry around short distances.Overall I'm in love with the product and see myself using it for decades to come.

I am familiar with a few sound systems that cater for indoor/outdoor events/parties that focus more on smaller events or gatherings and many party boxes with built in light effects. Sharp has now joined the party :-) but first impressions are that this is more dedicated to live music, albeit for smaller venues. This delivers 125W RMS (105dB) through 2 x 8 Woofers and 2 x 2 tweeters. It does feel really solid has a great heavy duty metal grill and red lettering. This can of course be really useful for presentations/conferences and lectures etc. too - as well as the odd party!.The unit is supplied with eight round protective corners (plus hex driver and screws). These look like they are strong enough to last but it is a shame that there is not the standard metal type corners too for those that will be using it a lot. The protective corners allow for positioning upright or horizontal (it has an angled design) and there is also a 35mm speaker stand mount underneath (for stands that have a minimum weight handling of 25kg and are stable). I think this is the only speaker of this kind that I have seen with a stand mount so Sharp seem serious about using this as stage/PA gear. A heavy duty gigging cover would be handy too but would probably be awkward with the protective corners in place. The battery pack has an impressive 10 hours playing time. More than enough for most events. Additional batteries are available as are special edition, customised speaker grills but they look great as they are. The spare battery would be great as a back up on those longer nights with no power source! There is a DC 18V input to charge the battery when it is not in the SumoBox.There are effectively 3 illuminated channels (2 with Volume,Treble, Bass and Reverb). These have XLR/TRS combo channels, (no phantom power though). A selector switch is provided for keys, guitar, Vox but using a mixer in one of the keyboard settings means you can have much more than this if you want. The third channel is for bluetooth connections and is volume only. This also has a ducking button to drop the volume if you need to talk over the audio input. Note: If the 3.5mm Aux in port is used, this will autoswitch from any bluetooth connection. On the back there is also power in and a USB charging port for mobile devices. There is also a indoor/outdoor selector mode optimising the speaker for either scenario. However, the SumoBox LS100 is not IPX rated, whereas the LS200 is IPX4 rated. I would not want to play at anytime with any sound system or instruments (especially vintage ones!), in damp conditions and will always try and apply safety first making sure that the stage area is protected.Using the Smart Life app gives you essentially the back panel on your mobile for ease of use. I did find the lack of EQ here a shame as most other units have a least a 5 band as standard on it and further EQ/FX in their apps. It is not too much of a problem for me as most Apps or FX I already use have EQ (I prefer a small mixing desk). This may be a problem for budding DJs though. Perhaps a future update may address this. Testing this with various genres gave good results, in the most part authentically reproducing audio with with good clear mids. Live vocals were crystal clear too but guitar and bass needed some tweaking to get right - but very impressive overall. With two of these speakers you can have great stereo - for larger than life encompassing stereo effects if you use them. This is achieved by using Duo mode giving True Wireless Stereo. You can also connect the traditional way via one way, two way or daisy chain cabling. This option will add 35ms latency to each additional speaker in the chain. I have not tried a set up with 2 or more speakers. SumoBox uses Devialet’s Speaker Active Matching (SAM), meaning that the speaker drivers are optimised. This technology is usually only found on the higher end speakers so is a great bonus. As with anything like this, before purchasing it is best to familiarise yourself with the manual to see if the SumoBox will suit your set up.Although Sharp may not be the first name to come to mind with PAs/Speakers/Party boxes, they have a very good track record with audio visual products since the 80s. I really like the simple functionality and ruggedness of this speaker. At the current price of £269.00, (at the time of writing this) it is a good contender on the current market. Perhaps being a little pedantic, I think It could offer a little more flexibility - housing more inputs/EQ and phantom power, but nevertheless a great speaker.

Portable powered speaker (mains and battery) that looks great and sounds amazing.....This looks the part, not showy or flashy, just looks like it wants to pop out music. Metal front grid, wooden surrounding case with corner bumbers to stop damage while moving it about. The speaker can be used upright or horizontal, here the corner bumbers will come in real well. These bumpers take about 10mins to fit, read teh instructions to see which ones go where. On the back a fantastic array of controls for the 3 channel options.Hnadles to the top and sides, so moving it arround is easy enough, as speakers go this is fairly light weight (used to 15" speakers). On the bottom you've a hole for speaker poles, so you can raise these up to suit any purpose. You've options for Blutooth (connect virtually instantly) TRS and XLR inputs, aux and USB so you can add mixers, MP players, mic's, computers, instruments, almost anything you want. There are wet proof cpas on all ports, so outside use is no problem. The battery really chunky, rechargable, can be charged while in use, sits nicely in the back of the speaker, taking over quickly if there's a power outage. With a spare battery, you're porbably more than covered for most gigs|sessions.Switching it on, you realise what a great sound speaker this is. The sounds are crystal clear, can be adjusted to get your own personal hearing preferences. At high volume the speakers are still holding well, no distortion. Using a mic, your voice is transferred almost exactly as is. We tested with MP player, phone, DJ mixer and radio.Loud, it can do loud without problems, garden parties, church halls, small venues, back up to bgger venues. Its a great all rounder. Its a typical quality product from Sharp, great value for money as it's pitched among its rivals very well.Hours and hours of fun will be had with this speaker... brilliant.

Had this for quite a while and not used it, then we offered to a friend to use at her 40th birthday and she absolutely loved it. The sound quality is excellent and hits decent trebles whilst predictably getting a good bass sound. It looks smart, either upright or on its side and its just big enough to be easily transportable in a small hatch back. We've only used it with Bluetooth connectivity thus far but will be using it with an instrument, soon.
