I wouldn’t suggest this for beginners. There are not a lot of detailed instructions. The video “tutorial” is just someone doing the project without explanation. I don’t think the canvas is good quality because I punch the yarn down and it won’t stay and there is a big hole left. All the other kit contents seem good tho. The gnome design is super cute. I am a beginner so I haven’t figured it out yet.

I ordered this JSRQT gnome punch needle kit to try something new and different. I’ve done cross stitch and latch hooking, and I’ve dabbled in embroidery, but I had never tried this before. The kit includes everything you need to complete the project. The colour of the yarn, mainly the yellow, was a little different than in the photos. The instructions leave much to be desired. There is one faded sheet of “instructions” with a QR code to scan for a video. The video is just someone using the punch needle, there is no talking or directions. I ended up having to go to YouTube where I found a short 6 minute video that explained how to thread the punch needle using the included wire threader tool, as well as how to actually use the punch needle properly. Without YouTube, I’d have been completely lost. That is the reason this is only 4 stars, the lack of clear instructions. Otherwise, I felt this was suitable as a beginner project. It says it only takes an hour, but it took me a few hours. The final product is pretty cute.

The product itself is not bad. While I have never done embroidery I know the process of the cloth and the hoop, for most I assume this would be an easy part without instructions. That said, not knowing much about the punch needle process or how to thread the needle, I had to look up a YouTube video as the instructions do not explain properly how to thread this needle or what it should look like once threaded. Moving on to the actual process, I followed the video provided in the top corner by scan, which also explained nothing, and tried my best to mimic the process. I hit many hurdles with this as well, the cloth was tearing, the thread was not pressing properly and in one section my thread was cut too short at the back to disconnect from the piece, so the thread keeps coming back through to the front of the cloth. The instructions should be more clear as this is meant to be a starter kit for those who want to get into punch needling.No direction as to the colours required for certain sections or where to start, just tells you to start with the smaller sections, which for the most part, end up covered by the bigger sections once you get there.At 18.99 plus taxes (at the time of this review), it’s a reasonable price for a starter kit, I just don’t think i would order a different design.
