You might think it odd but I've spent hours going through large numbers of picks by all the different makers. None of the mainstream makes give a a really good tone. Like a few other players I know I've become a bit obsessive with picks - tone and playability are all important. They all have different tones and now that I'm playing mainly Old Time, Bluesy and Bluegrass styles on the mandolin I had graduated to Wegen picks. These are hand made in Holland by Michel Wegen - great sound, a bit expensive and very hard to get.These Buffalo Horn picks are the next best thing I've found and are about 4 times cheaper and much easier to get! Next day delivery worked. Being a natural material they vary very slightly but 3 of the 4 in the pack are gig or recording quality with the 4th fine for sessions etc.Apart from making my own from recycled vinyl records (the older the better) these are likely to be my main picks for the foreseeable future.
