I paired this filter with my Canon EOS R7 and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens, the 7artisans Variable ND Filter (1.5-8 Stops) delivers solid performance, making it a great option for photographers and videographers looking for a reasonably priced solution to control exposure without sacrificing image quality. At the time of review in late February 2025, it is listed at £56.00.The filter came in a branded box, and inside, there is a decent plastic storage box with cut-out foam to keep it safe when not in use. The 7artisans Variable ND Filter is well-built, with a metal frame that feels sturdy yet lightweight. The 77mm thread fits seamlessly onto the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens without any issues. The filter’s rotating design allows for smooth and precise adjustment of the ND range, from 1.5 to 8 stops, offering a good range of light control for various shooting conditions. TThe main selling point of the 7artisans ND filter is its adjustable range. It’s capable of reducing light intake anywhere from 1.5 to 8 stops, making it versatile for a wide range of shooting situations. Whether shooting in bright daylight or using slower shutter speeds for creative effects (such as long-exposure photography), the filter allows for consistent results. When attached to the Canon EOS R7 and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens, I was able to achieve smooth adjustments, maintaining precise control over exposure. The filter also performed well in both still photography and video work, particularly when using slow shutter speeds to achieve motion blur in landscapes or video shots. The 7artisans Variable ND filter uses AGC (advanced grade coating) glass, and while it's not in the same league as higher-end filters like those from B+W or Hoya, it still delivers decent optical performance. I noticed minimal colour shift across the ND range, which is always a concern with variable ND filters. The image sharpness remained quite good, with no noticeable degradation in quality or resolution even at longer focal lengths (e.g., at 200mm).However, the filter does exhibit slight vignetting at the extreme ends of the ND range (especially when set to 8 stops), though it’s not overly distracting and can be corrected in post-processing if necessary. This is fairly common with many variable ND filters, particularly when used on wide-to-telephoto lenses like the 70-200mm.The 7artisans ND filter is incredibly user-friendly. The smooth and responsive rotating mechanism allows for quick adjustments, whether you're shooting video or adjusting for exposure in stills. The ability to dial in a range of stops without having to switch out filters is incredibly convenient, particularly in fast-moving shooting scenarios like some landscape photography. It’s worth noting that while the filter works well in the 1.5-8 stop range, I did notice a slight shift in the "sweet spot" of the rotation. On occasion, at the higher ND values, the image darkened unevenly, creating a noticeable colour cast or some softness near the edges. This was minimal and doesn’t detract much from the overall experience, but it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for absolute perfection in your results.Overall, the 7artisans Variable ND Filter 1.5-8 Stops (77mm) is a solid choice for Canon EOS R7 users and those with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens. While it has some minor optical imperfections like slight vignetting and occasional colour shift, its build quality, performance, and price make it an excellent value. For photographers and videographers seeking a reliable, budget-friendly ND filter that provides flexibility and convenience, the 7artisans ND filter is a strong contender.

A good value filter for non-professionals. Fits to the lens easily and stores in a hard plastic box. Smooth adjustment and easy to get the light level you need. Very good optical performance.
