Very interesting book on the origins of the marching drum. Also about the origins of, and reason for, using traditional grip when playing with a pair of drumstick.

This is a fantastic book for anyone who is serious about their snare drumming. It is appropriate for both beginners and advanced drummers. It is also a fantastic history of the craft. The attention to the history of snare drumming, the people who have influenced how we play, and the various techniques is spot on. It is clear the author has been a lifelong student of the craft and has done fantastic research. I would also say that this is a great book for ANY drummer who is interested in a concise review of key terms, music notation, and the often overlooked nuances of dynamics and color that make a great drummer.

I have plenty of exercise and method books for percussion but this one peeked my interest so I decided to try it out. I am very pleased with the purchase. I love the format of the book and the historical information. Enjoyable to flip through like a magazine but still dense with information. Learning the stories and history behind the music is inspiring and has already sparked something new in my playing. The author has done their honework and has put together something special here. Great price for what you get. I plan to buy another copy as a Christmas gift for a drummer friend.
