I have just bought and tested this product. It does not test USB cables correctly. All of the connections from one end of the cable are connected together on the board, so it does not detect if a connection is broken. It is not just that I had a faulty product, this product is just not designed to do the job it is intended for and gives a false reading that your USB cable is ok.It should not be on sale. I don't understand how such a simple tool could be so badly engineered. You had one job

Quite a lot to say about this tester:Pros 👍:✔ Fairly simple to use, plug in a powered USB-C cable into 'Power-IN' connection, then plug both ends of the cable to be tested (the ends should be on opposite sides). Then you will see green lights showing the circuit has been made (see note below in cons)Cons👎:✘ Does not come with any instructions, and the listing instructions are poor, it says "4 lights on means the power is normal, 4 lights all on means the power is not normal". That is incorrect, basically for USB-C you need 5 lights on to show a good cable, all other cables need to show 4 lights on for a good cable. Any lights off shows a defect.✘ Only tests 4 or 5 pins. Other testers will test all the pins.✘ Open circuit board, so possible to get a short and damage it (not: you cannot get a shock from it)✘ Must be powered by USB-C cable in order for it to workThere are better testers out there (ones that test all pins, plus ones that take a battery so they do not have to be powered by a USB-C cable), although they are slightly more money. Basically this tester is ok, but it is limited in it's test ability.----------------------------This review is for an item I received free as part of the Amazon Vine program. I always review objectively, and only award 5 stars if I feel a product is worth it and is something that I would be happy to buy.

Nowadays everyone is sure to have a wide range of cables to charge their mobile devices. Obviously these have a limited life as they are twisted and squashed up all the time. This is able to test most of them so you know that it’s the cable at fault if your phone of whatever isn’t charging rather than the device. Knowing where the fault lies is very helpful. It is very simple to use, just plug a USB-C wire into the power-in port then connect both ends of the cable you want to test in the appropriate ports and see how many of the LEDs light up to know if it’s time to discard the cable or not.Although it is simple to use, it doesn’t come with any instruction with it and I had to go to the listing to understand how to use it and what the lights indicated. I’ve knocked a star off because of this. I was also a little disappointed that there was no port to test a mini USB cable, but these connectors are becoming more unusual so this isn’t a great issue. It might have made the device much bigger I expect.Overall, this is very good.
