We gave this crucifix to my mother-in-law for her birthday and she loved it. The crucifix is beautiful but it is smaller than I thought it would be for the price. It is hanging next to the papal blessing we gave her and my father-in-law for their 50th anniversary.

I feel the power of my faith.How this arrivedThis arrived in a very sturdy, brown in color, rectangular in shape, cardboard package (box) that had a sleeve, made of cardstock, that was slipped over the near the entire length of the presentation package. On the top of the sleeve was a drawing of Vatican Square, where Mondo Cattolico is located (in Piazza San Peitro). On the front of the sleeve is a small drawing of the boot (Italy). The measurements of the package are 9½” x 7¼” x 2¼”. With the sleeve near the same dimensions. The sleeve slides off. The package was not sealed. The package weighs in at just over (12) ounces.What is insideOn opening the package, I see the top inside lid reveals a fancier picture of the piazza and translated from Italian to English, reads that the within item was handmade in Italy. In Italian, the package’s lid’s words are that the Cross was “the result of an exquisite Italian manufacture and was made with materials very high in quality and finishes of remarkable value.What else is inside?Inside the box is a perfectly made deep red cotton muslin type drawstring bag measuring 7” x 9”, not a stitch was out of place.Inside the bagInside the bag, of perfect manufacture, is the Cross.Weight of CrossThe Cross weighs in at (4.8) ounces (this is about 2/3rds) the weight of a similar sized Mondo Cattolico cross we have, we attribute that to the wood and the way that wood was designed.Cross sizeThe Cross measures about 7½” x 3.875” by 1” (at its thickest point) and the wood just under ½” thick.The CorpusJesus is near 4” in height and was cast from a metal alloy that has a satin warm gold/brass finish. There were no finishing defects nor unusual methods of placement, on the cross, that I would critique negatively.MedalThe enameled medals, there are two (2), can be observed on both sides of the Cross, each is perfect, as is everything else, including the wall mount metal ring on the top of the cross. The medal has an image of Saint Benedict, holding the Holy Rule in his left hand and a cross in his right. There is a raven on one side of him, with a cup on the other side of him. Around the medal's outer margin are the words "Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur" ("May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death"). The other side of the medal has a cross with the initials CSSML on the vertical bar which signify "Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux" ("May the Holy Cross be my light") and on the horizontal bar are the initials NDSMD which stand for "Non-Draco Sit Mihi Dux" ("Let not the dragon be my guide"). The initials CSPB stand for "Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti" ("The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict") and are located on the interior angles of the cross. The inscription "PAX" (Peace) is at the top of the cross in most cases. Around the medal's margin on this side are the Vade Retro Satana initials VRSNSMV which stand for "Vade Retro Satana, Nonquam Suade Mihi Vana" ("Begone Satan, do not suggest to me thy vanities") then a space followed by the initials SMQLIVB which signify "Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas" ("Evil are the things thou profferest, drink thou thine own poison")The olive woodThe olive wood is very smooth and has a satin finish. There were no finishing odors.The beech woodThis was also smooth with a satin fish.What else was withinA 4” x 6” card, in Italian, that reads, in English, “With the mind and heart turned towards the window of the holy father we receive the long-awaited papal blessing.” Then a few words thanking [me] for choosing [Mondo]. Also included was a post card of Rome, a business type card, and a presentation bag with rope handles. [Very, very nice!]My privilegeI consider myself privileged to have had the opportunity to select and receive Mondo Cattolico’s Wooden Decorative Cross for the Wall with the Medals, which are absolutely beautiful, heavy, perfectly made, and best of all, blessed by Pope Francis Angelus.Mondo Cattolico produces and offers the most revered and sought-after religious Symbols of Faith, such as this cross, that the world has ever seen. Some priced in the millions of dollars.The significance of owning this Cross gives off a sense of being, personal, emotional, and deep. The selection of this Cross can be a tribute to family.ThoughtsThis Cross has all a Crucifix should have, plus more. Simple classic beauty, elegance, and possessing a certain fragility; yet enduring, durable, and meaningful. This is not expected to tarnish, has a certain pleasing feeling of substance, looks great in hand, looks wonderful on a wall/mantle, and is built to last. The placement of Jesus and the medals appear exceptionally well done, with nothing loose or poorly made. Nothing appeared to be tarnishing. The metals all appear of good non-precious quality and our understanding is that all parts are made in Italy, and the final product blessed by Pope Francis Angelus (it’s the next best thing to being there – maybe someday).I think this a quality product at an incredible value from a company that is celebrating its 71st year within the confines of St. Peter’s Square. This is a fantastic, must give gift, we received, as extras, a presentation bag from their St. Peter’s Square store, a blank post card, [a guide on how to recite the stations of the cross would have been nice], and their business card. Is crucifix is really good looking. I like the quality of it. The feel it looks excellent. Craftsmanship is just perfect. They did a great job on this. I'm very pleased with it

This is beautiful but I’m not sure it’s quite worth the price. The lacquer and medals are beautiful touches. I’ve been generally impressed with all these they make exceptional gifts.
