Works well, not a noisy preamp and the headphone output is very handy.I use this for recording guide voice-overs for editing, I can use my laptop or android phone happily with this adaptor.

The most compact way of using a professional microphone with phones and tablets. This is a great cable and produces good results with microphones that have a higher output level.

After spending way too long searching for a solution to portably record with a proper microphone, I came across this cable by J&D that looked like the sort of XLR to USB adapter I needed. Finally, instead of a bulky audio interface and PC setup, you can record with a proper mic using only one cable and your phone.This isn't to say that you don't need an audio interface for proper recording - you will still need an audio interface to record more than one input at a time, to properly manage gain, and to get the least unwanted noise in your recordings. But this cable is a cheap and lightweight way to get the essentials without all the setup.I used this with both a Shure SM7B and a Behringer SM58-style mic. The SM58 mic worked great, with appropriate levels of gain. The SM7B worked well enough, and while it sounded great, it is a notoriously quiet mic, so noise was increased relative to a setup with a mic booster and interface. The noise floor is at least partially dependent on your phone's audio chip, so while it will almost certainly have a bit more background hiss than a real interface, I found the noise floor at least acceptable recorded on my Pixel phone.Overall: not a replacement for a full audio interface, but a pretty darn convenient alternative when you don't need the very highest fidelity.
