Prewashing fabric with Synthrapol helps remove oils, waxes and starches to ensure an even dye job. As an afterwash Synthrapol helps keep loose dye in suspension and is used to remove excess color and prevent backstaining. Can also be used as a wetting agent for fabric dyes and paints. Followed directions and washed a quilt. Turned out great! Colors did not run in the quilt.

This product has few uses, but my goodness does it EVER work!! In short:1. Prewashing fabrics/garments to be dyed, definitely recommended.2. AFTER dye rinse/wash- this stuff suspends the excess dye particles, keeping them out of the fabric as you rinse.3. Subsequent washing of home-dyed items, it prevents massive colour loss as well as stopping the runoff from staining other items in the wash.If you dye fabric at home, or especially if you do tie-dye, this is your very best friend.

I use this product for a vintage fabric that had bleeding all over it after I washed with dish soap. It removed the bleeding, i am super happy with the outcome.
