This is not going to be a long review. Chances are if you are looking at these then you either know what you're looking at or thinking about purchasing. Full disclosure - I am new to wood working. Well, I have done carpentry stuff; decks, additions, porches, remodels and stuff like this, but never any fancy detail router stuff. Why did I go with the CMT set in the first place? Not having any prior experience I simply asked my father-in-law. I had to remind him that I am not a custom cabinet builder. I am just someone that plans to tinker. I also reminded him that I buy tools once! I rather spend the money upfront than buying a lesser quality tool just to save a few dollars. With this in mind, he recommended this set to me. Additionally, the CMT kit has good reviews here on Amazon as well.My first hand experience is quite interesting. I have a Craftsman 20pc. kit that I have been using, just wanted to get my feet wet. The bits all have that hardened edge as well as having a replaceable bearing. (My little bit of research mentioned that router bits should have those two things, at minimum). With nothing to compare the Craftsman bits to, I can only assume that they work fine - I do not know any better. It was a toss-up to me. Is there a difference between a $50 kit vs. a $75 kit vs. a $90 kit? Do not know. I can only assume that there is a difference between that $75 kit and a $200 kit. So what can I expect from this moderately priced CMT kit?For comparable money to the Craftsman kit this CMT kit is different. Having used the CMT kit I could tell within 6 inches of routing that this kit is waayyy smoother than the Craftsman kit. Hell, I didn't even know that was a thing. Just did a simple rabbet on 1/2 inch MDF and I had to stop and literally look to see if the bit was cutting. The other thing I noticed is that the bearing change out on the CMT has tighter tolerances. Not that the Craftsman kit slops around, you can just feel that the CMT has tighter tolerances. I am not meaning to crap on Craftsman, they just happen to be the only other router bits I have used. To be honest, if I had never tried the CMT bit I would have never thought of changing my current bits. But after using the CMT bit, I can say that I will begin to slowly change my router bits to the CMT stuff. Fortunately I have very few bits to actually buy and I have no need to worry about building stuff that would require me to purchase super high-end bits. On the other hand, if these CMTs feel this nice, what must one of those crazy expensive high-end kits feel like?

Easy to set up. Sharp. Smooth cuts. Perform well with both plywood and hardwood. For a hobby woodworker, very good value.

This is my first CMT router bit and I am very happy with it so far. I can't speak to the longevity of the carbide, but for some jewelry boxes I made in exotic woods this Christmas I am pleased with the outcome. The carbide is on an angle to get a shearing action instead of perfectly perpendicular to the router. I bought this set with the 3/4 inch cutting height for more flexibility and at the time it was actually cheaper than the set with the 1/2" cutting height. Nice little box to store it in as well. I will look to CMT for future bit purchases.
