This is a great reference that has helped me to step up from straight rhythm playing. Easy to understand and with downloadable audio tracks to really bring it to life. Recommended.

Tanti spunti interessanti. Sfidante per un principiante. Fonte di ispirazione. Davvero un ottimo libro che spazia su tutti i generi. Un punto di partenza da cui sviluppare le proprie predilezione.

Mi aspettavo qualcosa di diverso da questo libro ma pur se un po' deluso ciò non ne riduce la validità. Il libro insegna come aggiungere dei licks e dei riffs all'accompagnamento fatto con la chitarra, senza entrare nei dettagli di come migliorare la propria ritmica ed il proprio accompagnamento (da qui la piccola delusione). Si compone essenzialmente di tre parti: chitarra folk (accordi con corde aperti, usando il capotasto mobile), chitarra blues e chitarra rock. Ottima la possibilità di ascoltare le parti con gli mp3 inclusi da scaricare dal sito ma gli spartiti potrebbero essere migliorabili, magari aggiungendo la diteggiatura corretta da utilizzare. Forse non è adatto ad un principiante alle prime armi ma è sicuramente un valido aiuto per aggiungere qualcosa alla ritmica di base.

Tanti liks utili ad un effettivo miglioramento per l'improvvisazione; aumenta il bagaglio musicale e la nostra abiltà di esecuzione. Utilissimi i file audio scaricabili.Consigliatissimo sia ai neofiti sia a chi già "mastica" musica.

A lot of good ideas in this book

Ottimo libro pieno di idee per cominciare ad aggiungere un po' di colore ai nostri accompagnamento. Il libro affronta molti generi musicali a da ottimi spunti per creare i nostri accompagnamenti sia ad accordi che i classici riff rock.

Buscaba algo con lo que avanzar de manera rápida sin tener que asistir a clases por falta de tiempo. Lo que perseguía era poder adornar los acordes utilizando fraseos entre ellos. Este libro te muestra multitud de ejemplos partiendo de cada acorde, mayor o menor, dependiendo de la forma adoptada en el mástil, fraseos válidos para blues, para rock con acordes de quinta, y muchas otras cosas. Dispone de audio que incluso puedes ir escuchando antes para que al final te suenen las piezas antes de estudiarlas. El libro está en inglés pero todas las lecciones están tabuladas. Su nivel es sencillo, pero el aprendizaje puede llegar a ser muy amplio con la práctica. He encontrado lo que buscaba. Gracias a Simon Pratt y a Fundamental Changes. Ya tengo que ir eligiendo mi próximo libro... Un saludo !!!

Excelente libro para los guitarristas que desean profundizar sus alcances en la guitarra, de modo que resulte al mismo tiempo rítmica, melódica y más propositiva.

Purchased this book to add some extra material to my playing and got exactly what I was looking for. This book is as described, well written and totally applicable. If you're an advanced player will likely have less appeal however for the player looking to open up some doors this is a great book.

By way of background, I'm a Berklee College of Music Grad from way back in 1981. My primary instrument is piano, which I also taught for 34 years, so I am very familiar w/ teaching materials in general. Additionally I'm a singer, songwriter, and producer.I have played guitar on and off since I was a teenager but until recently it always took a backseat to piano and songwriting/composing. Lately however I've been putting a tremendous focus on really learning the guitar fretboard as well as thinking more like a guitar player and really exploring the idiomatic subtleties of the instrument.One area that's been a major priority is rhythm playing. I'm a huge fan of the chordal approach of folks like Hendrix, SRV, Eric Johnson and Andy Timmons (and others) who have more melodic approach to their chordal playing. While "Beyond Rhythm Guitar" by Simon Pratt isn't specific to any particular player's style, it gives you a basic foundation to start thinking and therefore playing along those lines. I'm thoroughly impressed with it on many levels.The material is presented in a way that is extremely user-friendly. It progresses from simpler to more complex ideas, and the ideas that are presented are excellent jumping off points to create your own ideas. So this is book is about much more than simply memorizing patterns but learning from a more conceptual basis which means the sky is the limit in terms of exploration. This makes using the materials really enjoyable and I find I really look forward to each practice session and what new nuggets will be revealed.The other thing I really appreciate is the layout. The pages are clean and uncluttered which makes it visually inviting to work with. I wish all music authors would follow suit with this approach. There is nothing worse than having a page that is so overly cluttered that you have to waste valuable time trying to decipher what you actually need to focus on. This book lets you get down to what most students are interested in, actually playing their instrument.Another really great feature is that there are audio files of all the examples in the book that can be downloaded online for free. This makes it much easier for someone to work with the book on their own. Hearing the examples is a huge benefit since there are many subtleties that are hard to express exclusively via music notation. This allows the student to try to emulate the performance before exploring their own variations on the material.Last but not least, the book is a great price, around the cost of a single 30 minute guitar lesson!Major kudos to Simon as well as the publisher for providing such an outstanding book! I will definitely check out more books in the Fundamental Changes series in the future when I am looking for more materials on my ongoing journey with the guitar.
